Alcohol rehab and its travails

The moment I was started a alcohol rehab; it was the most horrendous feeling that one could ever go through.

The initial days when the withdrawal symptoms hit were the worst to deal with. The constant craving for the alcohol, the stomach cramps and the constant tingling of one’s nerves that made one feel as though insects were crawling all over me.  I hated the sweat and shivering that my body went through. To top all of this  were the recurring nightmares of home, my parents, and what I had done with my life. There was not a single night that I slept through peacefully.  I felt sick to the core and just wished to be able to get out of this hell.

But the professionals were of course aware of the various stages the alcoholic passes through, and they did their very best to predict my next move all the time. They did keep a vigilant eye on me and did everything possible to help me on the path of recovery.  There were the constant medical tests and counseling sessions. There were group therapy and individual one to one talks to.  I really wanted to get rid of the alcohol out of my blood.

At the rehab, they had several things to get your mind occupied and off alcohol. There was the gym and the punching bag that you could use along with the support system that one could bank on. Gradually, I started to wean myself off the dependency that I had developed on alcohol. The most trying of periods of dealing with the alcohol withdrawal symptoms was over, and I was on my way to recovery.

There were days that were good and there were days that were real bad. I yearned for a drink real bad and would do anything to get my hands on to one. But the rehab center kept great tabs on me and plus my strong resolve to ultimately get out of this vicious cycle.

At times I was tired of trying to deal with the constant battle that I had to fight with my mind and that led to a whole lot of mental fatigue. The mood swings were devastating for sure.

The care and right medical assistance at the rehab finally allowed me to get out of this.
