The overuse of alcohol is dangerous, and the government of Canada is dedicated to assisting its residents against excessive alcohol consumption. Since it is a known fact that alcohol contributes to accidents and/ or fatalities, it is up to the Canadian government to curtail incidents pertaining to alcohol abuse. There are several manners in which Canada is attempting to reduce alcohol substance such as encouraging alcohol and drug rehab centers, enforcing DUI regulations and/ or penalties, encouraging support groups for alcoholics, etc. The war against alcohol abuse is a hard battle to fight, because each year over 100,000 people throughout Canada and the United States become involved in excessive alcohol consumption, which leads to many negative problems. The illicit and negative behaviors that occurs, due to the overuse of alcohol are as follows:
Alcohol can and/ or will lead to a depressed state of being. The reason is that alcohol only masks problems, it does not solve them. The bothersome issues still remain after an individual becomes sober, and they usually grow bigger until they become so large that they cannot be solved by this person. Then, the state of depression sets in, due to the situation that seems to be rather hopeless. This causes the alcoholic to drink more.
Alcohol will raise an individual’s blood pressure and can even lead to hypertension. Many medicines prescribed for high blood pressure can cause adverse reactions when mixed with alcohol.
Those individuals who become intoxicated can easily be drawn into sexual encounters that they may not remember. This can lead to rape, pregnancy, sexual diseases, as well as health related problems, and depression.
Individuals who consume large amounts of alcohol and become addicted very often lose interest in their jobs, thus missing work and showing a sharp decline in their productivity. This, in turn, can lead to a termination in their jobs.
Driving under the influence can lead to accidents, fatalities, and legal punishments.
Canada is working very diligently in attempting to reduce its high number of alcohol addicts, due to the negative effects that the overuse of this substance has on its residents.
