Ontario’s Alcohol Problem

Toronto, Ontario has decided to combat its alcohol problems. It has developed some programs to prevent alcohol abuse in hopes of keeping people from abusing alcohol, as a means of social recreation and/ or escape. These curriculums have been in effect since the 1990’s, with alterations made to coincide with the times and/ or social scenes.

Toronto, along with the rest of Ontario, is trying to raise the awareness associated with alcohol abuse to a whole new level. The officials of Ontario feel that this will help prevent the problem related to alcohol.  They feel that the education leading to awareness of alcohol abuse should begin at an early age. These way children can be aware of the dangers of alcohol, prior to being exposed to a situation that involves such activities. School counselors are trained and equipped in handling those students who have more concerns and/or questions on this subject… The public health department of Ontario is also concentrating on alcohol abuse and educates individuals on its prevention, as well as its rehabilitation.

Ontario, as well as the entire continent of Canada, has set strict advertising regulations on alcohol products. The labels on alcoholic beverages   are geared to warn individuals of the risks of alcohol drinking and also the dangers of too much alcohol, this stating that the abuse of alcohol can lead to  fatal situations,

The government of Ontario is also using its influence to increase the tax on alcoholic beverages from time to time. In this way, the province makes more revenue and the buyers of alcohol may be a little discouraged in buying large quantities of alcohol, due to the taxation. Ontario is also trying to enforce the regulations of prohibiting the sale of alcohol to all underage individuals.  The establishment that is caught selling to those underage persons will be strictly fined.

Believe it or not, alcohol is the most prevalent drug in Ontario. Since it is legal, many people feel that they can over indulge in it. However, this is not the case. Those people who become intoxicated can be in danger of being involved in serious accidents. Ontario is trying to prevent this!
