The Personality Traits of an Alcoholic

Many individuals who have alcohol abuse problems experience drastic changes in their personalities. They sometime revert to the opposite of their true PA. For example, an outgoing person may be inclined to pull away from friends and family and begin drinking “solo”. He/she might eventually become a loner, due to the alcohol problem. The same could be true with a “loner”. This individual might feel the need to party with others who are constantly drinking. This person will go from a private individual to a “party animal”. Alcohol can make a person behave in a state of being that is not natural.  Its overuse can eventually lead to unhappy situations and problems.

The people who tend to have more chance of being alcoholics possess some of the following traits:

•    Low self – esteem

Individuals with low self esteem tend to drink alcohol to build their confidence, which only gives them a false sense of self assurance.

•    Angry

There are those persons who are mad at the world, so they drink to try and be happy. Of course, this may work for the time that they are intoxicated, but it is not a permanent feeling.

•    Depressed

For those people who are depressed, alcohol seems to be the answer. It is a quick “high”.

•    Impulsive

Some people will drink excessively on an impulse. They continue to dose and finally develop a taste for alcohol, thus becoming an abuser.

•    Loner

There are those people who stay to themselves. They begin drinking alone and are referred to as” closet alcoholics”.

•    For a means of escape

Does alcohol provide a means of escape for those persons who have unsolvable problems? No, not really. It may seem to be an escape or a way to solve problems; however it only makes the problems worse.

Because of the adverse issues that alcohol abuse incurs, the Canadian government is trying desperately to reduce the use of this substance, thus keeping it in moderation. In this way, Canada will not be at risk for an economy made up of weak minded individuals.
